Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2023

Category: AirTanker Released: 07 February 2023

This week we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2023! At AirTanker, we support a range of apprenticeships within many different roles across our organisation. Following the successful commencement of our first apprenticeship scheme in Aeronautical Engineering in 2016, we have expanded the reach of this development and have since provided apprenticeship opportunities within Digital Technology, Finance, Ground Operations, Business Administration, Project Management and Communications.

Completing an apprenticeship not only develops skills in a chosen field, but they provide so many other skills that are developed and used for life. At AirTanker, we see the value in the development and skills that Apprenticeships provide to the individual, their mentors, and colleagues, and to the wider organisation.  We are delighted that many of our Apprentices now hold permanent roles within our organisation and continue their career in aviation.

We spoke with our Communication Apprentice, Katie Rigby, who recently completed a Level 4 Apprenticeship in PR. She said:

“I am very thankful of the opportunities I have been given at AirTanker. I have been able to learn and develop myself extensively, developing skills such as project management, stakeholder management, supplier relationships, photography and videography, crisis communications, and how to plan and write communications campaigns. Learning these have aided me in progressing through my career as a communications professional and will continue to help through my new role within AirTanker.”

Sara Chubb, Head of Communications & Engagement, AirTanker, added:

“Katie joined the Communications Team as an Apprentice in 2021. She has been an integral and valuable member of our team and has made the most of every opportunity to learn and develop her skills within the Communication and PR industry. Throughout her apprenticeship journey, Katie shared the latest insights with the rest of the team which not only strengthen her understanding, but also opened up new ways of thinking and offered new perspectives. Seeing Katie develop through her Apprenticeship has been incredible - the team and I are delighted with her distinction result and that she has stayed in the team in a permanent role to continue her development and career in Communications.”
