AirTanker has developed extensive expertise in the movement of troops and military assets through military charter and our partnership with the RAF. We offer a truly agile and adaptable service.

A flexible troop transport platform

The A330-200/MRTT is the shorter-fuselage variant of Airbus’ A330 twin-engine wide-body family, and has the versatility to cover all ranges from short-haul to true long-haul, with ideal sizing for point-to-point operations, with more than 500 airframes flying across more than 70 civil carriers.

In its AirTanker configuration, the MRTT/A330 is able to carry 291 passengers in a single class standard configuration, with an identical cabin configuration across military and civil assets. This includes comfortable 34 inch seat pitch, In-flight Entertainment System (IFE) and long haul catering facility.

In its MRTT military set up the aircraft is also equipped with a Defensive Aid Suite (DAS), allowing it to operate in and out of theatre to deliver protected air transport.

Full transparency in planning

Using the same A330-200/MRTT airframe across our operations, we’re able to offer full transparency in planning. This means that the movement coordinators have full visibility of our capability irrespective of whether they’re chartering military or civil assets.

The large-capacity underfloor cargo hold remains unchecked in an MRTT AAR role, which means that military or civil aircraft can accommodate industry-standard LD3 containers in side-by-side loading, as well as 96-inch or NATO 463L pallets.

The MRTT also maintains its ability to refuel mid-air and to carry freight and passengers, making it a truly flexible asset and one which is already delivering new operational capability to the RAF as Voyager.

An agile and adaptable service

Our civilian crews regularly support intercontinental UK and partner nation troop and asset movements, as chartered by the UK MOD, including support for the Afghan draw-down, on the Civil Aircraft Register.

Our civilian pilots and engineers also double as Sponsored Reservist pilots, stepping across to the Military Aircraft Register MAR to bring unparalleled A330-type experience to military training and operations.

This means that we bring the flexibility inherent in our support service to the RAF, across to our civil operations including those in support of the UK military.
