AirTanker combines the expertise of our highly experienced engineering teams with that of our industry partners, to bring unrivalled support to MRTT and A330-type operations

Through-life support

AirTanker was chosen in 2008 to provide the Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) to the RAF, underpinning the training, operation and ongoing engineering of the aircraft.

AirTanker takes full responsibility for the maintenance and continued airworthiness of the Voyager fleet.

AirTanker’s Hub at RAF Brize Norton plays host to through-life support and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), with the support of our industry partners, Airbus Military, Cobham, Rolls Royce and Thales. This service continues away from home through the deployment of people, spares and equipment to make sure that RAF Voyager is always operationally ready

Blending the best of civil and military aviation

Aircraft operate on the military register and civilian register, with the engineering team working to the most restrictive of either regulator: the Military Aviation Authority (MAA) or the Civilian Aviation Authority (CAA).

As an airline in its own right, AirTanker holds an Air Operator’s Certificate, as well as, Extended Range Operations (ETOPS180), and EASA Part 145 and Part M approvals. As Voyager’s major maintenance programmes are carried out to Civil Aviation Authority regulations, all of our engineers, civilian or RAF embedded, have an individual Part 145 licence.

As part of our pioneering training programme, the first teams of RAF engineers have are now cleared to work on A330 aircraft under civilian regulations.

A330 expertise, supporting frontline operations

Employing civilian, Sponsored Reservist and RAF embedded engineers, AirTanker’s engineering maintenance team delivers unparalleled levels of support to frontline operations.

Although not always a prerequisite, the majority of our civilian engineers double as RAF Reserves. This gives the RAF new depth in experience and numbers to deploy engineering teams down route in the support of the aircraft.

Our engineering service also mobilises the latest secure communications technologies to connect our deployed mechanical and electronics specialists in real time with the team at RAF Brize Norton, bringing additional expertise and support to the operational environment.
