The MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) from Airbus Defence & Space delivers a step change in military air transport and air-to-air refuelling (AAR). Underpinning the operation of RAF Voyager, AirTanker has unparalleled expertise in the provision of MRTT leasing and the deployment of aircraft in support of military operations.

RAF Voyager

AirTanker is the private sector partnership of leading aerospace companies that includes Airbus Group, Cobham, Rolls Royce, Thales and Babcock, appointed in 2008 to deliver RAF Voyager, the Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) contract, a 27 year service that is delivering a step-change in the RAF’s operational capability

Supplying 14 Airbus MRTT/A330-200 aircraft under the contract, AirTanker provides a commercial guarantee of aircraft availability, assuming all responsibility for maintenance. Aircraft remain owned by AirTanker and are made available by it to the RAF on a commercial basis.

Including the infrastructure, service and support, which underpins RAF Voyager’s, safe, efficient and reliable operation by the RAF, we are able to offer the UK military and its partners access to one of the most technically advanced and flexible global military air transport solutions.

Airbus MRTT

The Airbus MRTT sets the benchmark in strategic multi-role tanker technology. Providing a state-of-the-art air-to-air refuelling capability (AAR), with a payload of 43 tonnes of freight and 291 seat passenger capacity and/or aeromedical evacuation capability, it delivers new flexibility in air mobility.

The only aircraft of its type currently certified to simultaneously perform AAR, passenger/and or freight transport, and/or medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), the MRTT delivers new strategic and operational reach.

This capability has been proven in the role the airframe has performed for the RAF in the form of Voyager, supporting UK and partner nation tanking and transport operations around the globe, including continuing support for international operations over Northern Iraq.

Aircraft availability and scope

Aircraft are available from 2015. We have established relationships with the Movements Coordination Centre Europe (MCCE), NATO and the European Defence Agency (EDA).

AirTanker is also able to provide unprotected air transport on the Civil Aircraft Register under its own Air Operators’ Certificate, operated by AirTanker pilots and cabin crews.
